Attorney Mark Urban is board certified in State and Federal Government and Administrative Practice with over thirteen years of litigation experience. He began his legal career on the Treasure Coast as a public defender in the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit where he tried numerous cases to successful verdicts. He went on to join a private criminal defense firm in Fort Pierce before opening his own law practice in Tallahassee. Mark joined the Office of the Attorney General in 2015 to focus on civil trial work. There, he litigated cases on behalf of the Department of Revenue and the Department of Corrections in state, federal, and administrative forums. Mark won a federal jury trial, has argued in front of multiple courts of appeal, and has had multiple favorable published opinions.
Immediately before joining Hoskins, Turco, Lloyd & Lloyd, Mark served as the head of litigation for the state’s largest agency, the Florida Department of Corrections. In addition to serving as lead counsel on cases for the Department, Mark was responsible for the oversight of the over 1,200 active court cases including torts, contracts, wrongful death, and civil rights cases, among others.
Mark is a Florida native and was born and raised in Sarasota, Florida. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Florida. Mark graduated from Stetson University College of Law, which has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as first in the nation for trial advocacy. Mark tried his first case as a certified legal intern with the public defender’s office in law school, securing an acquittal for his client. Mark was also selected for and competed in the Phelps Dunbar Appellate Advocacy Competition, honoring the students with the best appellate brief and oral argument.
Mark was nominated twice in 2020 by the Second Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission to fill judge vacancies on the Leon County Court bench. He was recently appointed through 2025 to serve on the Florida Bar’s Constitutional Judiciary Committee. Mark has achieved a Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating and is Board Certified in State & Federal Government & Administrative Practice. He is admitted to practice in Florida, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States District Courts for the Southern, Middle, and Northern Districts of Florida. Mark has been a member of the William H. Stafford Inn of Court since 2019.
Mark’s wife, Renee, is a staff attorney for Florida Supreme Court Justice Charles T. Canady. Mark met Renee on the Treasure Coast and proposed to her in Vero Beach. Mark and Renee live in Vero Beach with their three children—two girls and a boy.
