A lifelong resident of St. Lucie County, I have always looked forward to spring in south Florida. Nothing says spring like the smell of orange blossoms in the morning, mild temperatures, and the return of the Mets for training, but one of my favorite spring activities is the St. Lucie County Fair.
This year, the St. Lucie County Fair is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The first fair was held in 1966 on a stretch of land adjacent to the St. Lucie County Airport. Over time, more land was purchased and buildings were constructed, but the fair eventually outgrew the 20-acre space and moved west of town. In 1999, the fair purchased 250 acres at the intersection of Midway Road and Okeechobee Road and opened its gates at the new location in 2003.
I remember as a young boy going to the old fairgrounds and visiting the fun school exhibits and train displays, eating delicious foods I never got at home, and riding the Bullet over and over again on the midway. The fair was a fun time for adults and children, and it allowed our county to showcase its pride, heritage, and sense of community. Although the fair has expanded in size and is recognized as the second largest fairground in Florida, it still retains a small-town feel-good quality. Large exhibit halls house school displays, local vendors, and community organizations. Area 4-H clubs show steer and swine (which culminates into two of the most successful youth livestock auctions within the state fair circuit), as well as horses and small animals; concerts (This year we have Randy Houser and HAIRBALL.) and rodeos are held in the covered Adams Arena; the local Future Farmer’s of America serves barbeque and southern sides at its pavilion; and numerous food vendors offer funnel cakes, beef tips, fried Twinkies, and the best sweet tea along the midway. This year the Budweiser Clydesdales horses will be at the fair and will walk through the grounds daily. Every day, the fair has new events and shows, and for the two-week-duration, thousands of people pass through the admission gates.
You do not want to miss this year’s fair! I have a booth in the Community Building, as I have for years, and my team and I are available to talk about legal questions or concerns, including any injury or auto accident questions. We will again be giving away another Big Green Egg grill, which if you don’t win this one, you can purchase one at East Coast Lumber and Supply/Ace Hardware in downtown Ft. Pierce. We’ll also be raffling off twenty of the life-saving devices, Resqme. I look forward to seeing you at the 50th St. Lucie County Fair! If you or a loved one has been injured in any type of accident, call me. I am a Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer with over 30 years of experience in helping the injured, proudly serving the people of Port St. Lucie, Vero Beach, Fort Pierce, and Okeechobee.
