Social Security Card Scam

As you probably well know, in addition to Personal Injury and Auto Accident cases, Hoskins Turco Lloyd & Lloyd handles Social Security Disability claims–

and I recently heard about a scam involving Social Security card numbers.

The Better Business Bureau has alerted the public about scammers telling consumers that the government or another agency will pay their bills, and to do this, all they need is the consumer’s Social Security card number. The Better Business Bureau has confirmed that these statements are false.

The government or another agency is not paying bills, and, in fact, consumers may incur additional bills, such as late fees, and/or disconnection of services fees if they agree to participate. You should never give out any personal information to a phone caller, and you should never give out your Social Security card number.

If you think you have been part of this scam, you can contact the Better Business Bureau for free at 1-800-239-1642. Hopefully, with this information, you will not fall victim to this scam.
