If you’ve ever been stuck waiting on the side of the road after a minor crash, you know how frustrating—and potentially unsafe—that delay can feel. But now, Florida drivers have a new, faster option to get back on the road: the Florida Highway Patrol’s new Desk Trooper Video Chat Program.

Launched as a first-of-its-kind initiative in the U.S., this pilot program allows drivers involved in minor collisions on select toll roads to video chat with a live FHP trooper—without waiting for one to arrive at the scene.

What Is the Desk Trooper Program?

The Desk Trooper Program is a joint effort between FHP and the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) to help speed up crash investigations, reduce congestion, and prioritize trooper response for more serious accidents. Initially available on 125 miles of CFX toll roads like State Roads 408 and 417, the program has already expanded to more counties across the state—including Brevard, Marion, and others.

How It Works

If you’re involved in a minor crash (no injuries, no blocked lanes, no DUI/criminal concerns, and no commercial vehicles), here’s how to use the program:

No apps or downloads required. The process is fast, convenient, and helps free up troopers for more urgent calls.

Safety & Efficiency Tips If You’re in a Minor Crash

To make the most of the Desk Trooper option, keep these tips in mind:

Why It Matters

According to FHP, response times for minor crashes can exceed an hour, especially in busy counties like Orange and Osceola. By using video chat, many of these incidents can be resolved in a fraction of the time, keeping traffic flowing and drivers safer.

What If You Need Legal Help After a Crash?

While the Desk Trooper program is a great solution for minor fender benders, some accidents can lead to property damage disputes, hidden injuries, or insurance complications—even if they seem minor at first.
