Routine Vehicle Maintenance Improves Safety

Routine vehicle maintenance, including checking the four basics — Oil, Brakes, Tires, & Plugs — can help make driving on Florida’s sometimes dangerous roads safer and more enjoyable for your family. (Image courtesy: Howitoo.com)Routine vehicle maintenance can be easily neglected;  however, you could be putting yourself and those around you in danger if you don’t keep up with a maintenance schedule.  Statistics show that 80% of all vehicles have at least one component in need of maintenance.  Some basic items that should be checked regularly include:  the air filter, battery, belts, brakes, engine oil, hoses, lights, oil filter, power steering fluid, tires, transmission fluid, washer fluid, and wiper blades.  Always consult your owner’s manual for maintenance schedules.  For example, some cars need an oil change every 3,000 miles while others need an oil change every 5,000 or 15,000 miles.  You can also take your vehicle into an auto service facility to get it inspected by a certified mechanic.

Although you can severely damage your vehicle if you fail to keep it maintained, maintenance problems can also lead to serious accidents.  If you forget to replace your brakes, you may experience brake failure;  if your tires are over-inflated or under-inflated, you may lose control of your vehicle in an emergency situation;  if your wiper blades are old and brittle, you might not be able to see the road in a heavy rain storm.

During the summer months, many people take vacations.  Make sure your vehicle is well maintained to keep you and those around you safe. However, if you are involved in any type of vehicle accident, please call me immediately.
