Ford Recalls Could Affect Many Local Vehicles

Safe Driving Posted on Oct 08, 2012

There are many Ford vehicle owners and drivers on the Treasure Coast and Lake Okeechobee area. All Ford owners and drivers should be aware of the following recent Ford vehicles recalls:

1. 2013 Escape SUVs

Ford Motor Company has recalled thousands of 2013 Escape SUVs as a result of a potential problem affecting the brakes. The automaker says that carpet padding is not positioned correctly in more than 8,000 vehicles which could prevent drivers from moving their feet from the accelerator to the brake pedal. Ford will fix this problem free of charge when the vehicle is brought to them.

2. 2001-2004 Ford Escapes

Ford Motor Company has recalled nearly 500,000 Ford Escapes which were manufactured between 2001 and 2004, are equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 engine, and have cruise control. Apparently, a cruise control problem may cause the throttle to stick. Ford states that if drivers experience what they believe to be a stuck throttle, they should firmly and steadily apply the brakes without pumping the brake pedal, shift the vehicle to neutral, steer the vehicle to a safe location, shut the engine off, and place the transmission in park. Anyone having a Ford Escape as described above should immediately take the vehicle to a Ford dealer for repairs. Drivers can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 for more information.

3. 2008-2009 F-250/350 Trucks

Continental Tire is recalling around 400,000 Contitrac tires that were supplied as original equipment on some 2008 and 2009 Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks. According to Continental Tire, some of these tires may experience uneven wear, vibration, and in some cases, belt or tread separation which increases the risk of a crash. Tire separations are extremely dangerous and can cause vehicles to roll over and crash resulting in serious injuries and death. If you own one of the above-described trucks and it still has the original tires, you are urged to contact Continental Customer Service toll-free at 1-888-799-2168.
